So I had Zeke weighed today at Kessa's apt. and...I have to buy my little chunker a new car seat. Have any of you bought convertible car seats? We didn't have to for Kessa. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of your car seat/where you got it/how much it was. Help a girl out here!!! (oh, if it helps I'm a big fan of Graco stuff in general and I don't have the $$$ to buy a Britex (I think that's how its spelled...) Thanks for you help!!!

The convertible is probably the most important car seat you're going to buy, and spending a little extra money here is worth the world. If you can't afford the Britax, there are plenty of great seats out there. Look for the highest harness weight limit because you want to keep your child in a 5-point harness as long as possible (even past 40 lbs - this is safety we're talking about). Nowadays, harnesses go as high as 80 lbs.

The Compass True Fit is awesome and has a harness up to 65 lbs. You can also keep your child rear-facing up to 35 lbs - very safe.

The Sunshine Kids Radian is a seat I recommend all the time - I can't speak highly enough of it. It's got a harness up to 65 lbs and excellent side impact protection. It's also got a narrow profile so it fits really well in most cars. If you've got an extra 50 bucks lying around, spring for the Radian 80, which has a harness up to 80 lbs.

Both of these seats are around the 200 dollar mark. Probably a little more than a Graco, but the harness weight limit is worth its weight in gold. They'll also last until your child graduates to a regular booster (which is whenever they hit their forward facing car seat's limit).
